Explore what areas of your life you need to address to increase your happiness. If you want to know how to get somewhere, you have to know where you are going. Try making a list of the different areas of your life and rating them on a scale of 1-10, with 1 being not happy and 10 being happiest. Categories could be family, friends, work, self – love, motivation, money, etc). Choose one or 2 of your lowest scoring categories to focus on. Having a plan is the first step on your journey.
Understand your happiness areas. If you aren’t sure what your strengths or weaknesses are when it comes to your happiness, take a quiz to learn how to improve upon your weaknesses and build upon your strengths. My results showed I have been living my life out of balance, and this is taking away some of my happiness in all areas of my life. By knowing I feel unbalanced, I can begin to work on establishing a better schedule which divides my time to better balance work, family, and me time.
Simplify your life. Oh to be simple! To live free of clutter, free of “stuff”, free of complications. That should be the goal every day. Starting to simplify may seem like a fantastic feat, but as with anything, it just starts with just a few simple steps. For a real authority on de-cluttering your life, I recommend purchasing “The Life Changing Magic of Tidying Up,” or even visiting Joshua Becker’s site, Becoming A Minimalist for some tips and tricks. If you are not a reader, try out Amazon’s Audible program. This is great especially if you find yourself driving a lot. Why not educate yourself while you drive? You can get your first 2 Audible books for free!
Start small. Have you ever seen the movie “What About Bob?” with Bill Murray? His therapist was known for following a program of Baby Steps, which Bob was able to use to move way outside of his comfort zone to improve his quality of life. You can employ this same strategy to improve your own quality of life. Do not change anything major in your life to be happier. You can change just one simple thing (taking deep breaths when you start to feel stressed out), and build on those steps as you become more comfortable with your new more positive life.
Create a routine. This is so important. The top 1% earners start their day with a morning routine. Mark Cuban, who is worth 3.3 Billion dollars, says every morning he does 4 things; Starts with a positive attitude, tackles his emails, catches up on current events, and reads. Tony Robbins, worth $480 Million dollars, sleeps for 3-5 hours, wakes between 7 AM and 9 AM, drinks an “adrenal support cocktail”, eats breakfast, meditates, and workouts. He says his entire morning routine takes roughly 30 minutes. If you do not have a morning routine, stop what you are doing, and order the Morning Ritual Mastery 7 day course right now. Yes, you can create a routine on your own. However, chances are if you do not already have one, you aren’t going to do it without some guidance.
Treat yourself well. Eat right. Exercise. Meditate. Get enough sleep. Be kind to yourself. Pamper yourself. Do not engage in self defeating actions or negative self image. After a hard day, give yourself permission to unwind for half an hour in a hot shower or bath with some essential oils.
Treat others well. Be kind to others. I know it’s hard sometimes. Everyone is fighting a battle you know nothing about. If you see someone struggling, lend a helping hand. Offer an ear to listen, a day of volunteering for a good cause, or just send a quick note to a friend or family member telling them to have a good day and you were thinking about them. You never know how big of an impact you can have on someone else’s happiness by practicing random acts of kindness.
Pay attention to the good. Sometimes we get so wrapped up in the bad (or the perception of bad), we forget to appreciate the good. You can assure yourself you are focusing on the good if you incorporate Gratitude in your morning and/or nighttime routine.
Learn as much as you can. Knowledge really is power. The more you know, the more you will grow. What are you interested in learning? Do you want to learn a 2nd language? Play an instrument? Learn to meditate? If you are following any type of recommendation for daily routines, meditation is always recommended. If you have ever tried to meditate on your own, you may have realized it isn’t very easy to silence your thoughts and stop your mind from wandering. Anmol Mehta offers online meditation and yoga classes for the beginner all the way to teach to your own courses. We have every opportunity at our fingertips. There are no excuses to not be able to reach any goal you set for yourself.
Take action. Anyone can have an idea, it’s not always easy to take action. What if I told you though, you can be happier. Absolutely, without a doubt, if you start incorporating at least a couple of ideas listed above, you will be happier. And the more you take control of your thoughts, your attitude, your actions, and your habits, the happier you will be.
